To anyone on here that does OCR Religious Studies, I am completely confused with William James' ideas on religious experience. So far I know that :

he believed that "religious experiences are the source of religious belief"

that "religious experiences hold importance for the individual"

and that they "point to the existence of something larger"

As well as this, I know his four criteria- Passive, Noetic, Transient and Innefable.

However, I am still unsure as to whether he believed that religious experiences are from God or not, and whether they are true.

Can anyone help? Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated
