doing the certificate in modern languages alongside normal degree

Ill be most grateful to anyone who can help: does anybody know how much work would be involved in doing the one-year certificate in a modern language alongside a history degree if i did it either this year or next (i have missed the recommended deadline and they might not let me anyway until next year)? I really want to do either modern greek or german, and know there are supervisions, weekly grammar thingies and exams in may, but im not sure how much this would eat into my actual study time for my primary degree. I dont want to end up with a 2.2/third because ive spent too much time learning a foreign language. Cheers.

Is there not a foreign language option in the history prelim anyway?

Isnt it a foreign language paper specialising in an area of history which has a prerequisite of a language rather than the option to learn one?

Also have you checked out the cambridge languages cetnre? presumably deadline has not passed for courses there as freshers week is when they pick up msot people
