Roommate Problems...

I attend a university with my roommates, who I've always got along with. We all have our own YouTube channels (and no I'm not telling u which one). I'd say between us we have a modest number of subscribers. But last week, while I was recording a video with a friend, he started making slightly flirtatious gestures which made me really uncomfortable to the point where I had to stop recording.

Then, in an attempt to 'break the ice' he made what I found to be a really offensive and inappropriate joke regarding my ethnicity. After that, I left the room and had to let my viewers down as a result. I haven't spoken to him since, and tried to avoid him as much as possible. I feel like this had formed a really awkward atmosphere whenever we're in a room with friends and I know my subscribers are going to start noticing his absence from my videos as he used to appear in them quite frequently as did I do some stuff with him for his channel. If you've got any advice on how to deal with situations like this id love to hear it!

Bump??
So he liked you, tried to flirt with you, tried to solve the awkwardness probably nervously and made a bad joke that you took to heart and now you hardly speak. Awks!

Are you trying to say I should make the first move to rekindle our stale friendship?

Can anyone else offer any insight to help me tackle this problem?

Sometimes people either want to say something and when they do it comes out wrong or they mean it as a joke. He may have also not seen what he had said offensive so in his eyes you did nothing wrong or didn't realise it until it was late..
I think you should give him a second chance and 'rekindle the friendship' but maybe explain why it was inappropriate so he understands and won't do it again.. I'll admit, it will be awkward after the convo but you'll go back to normal in no time:smile:

I say give him a chance.

Odds are he made a bad joke at a bad time and you just took it to heart. If you've always got on with him then I doubt he actually meant anything by it. As cliche as it sounds, talk to him about it and hear him out.

I just read my post back and it is completely grammatically incorrect but I guess it's excusable at 12.21am haha.
It's ok and let us know how it goes:smile:
Agree with what the other posters have said, seems a little harsh to just avoid him completely without giving him the chance to redeem himself.

I think you're taking this a bit too seriously - friends in most cases joke about each others ethnicity if they're different - well that's what I've found anyway. Like I always joke about one of my friends being black & he does the same to me, no biggie.
if you have a gaming channel i doubt ur viewers mean much
unless ure really special and u got like 5k subs

I do comedy, vlogging and makeup tutorials, 54 videos with just under 3k subs! Think I'm doing ok personally but I'd like to be as big as Zoella or Marzia Bisognin one day!

oki good

**** gaming channels
You should go out with the guy; even if you're just using him. Lots of the big YouTubers are in relationships with other YouTubers. Marzia wouldn't be as big as she is if she wasn't going out with Pewdiepie. So if the guy has more subs than you, go out with him.

The guy in question has 1800+ subs and I would never go out with someone just to advantage my channel, that goes against all my romantic principles. Most YouTubers I know prefer to keep their partners off-camera and personally I would rather not appear in any videos if my future boyfriend does happen to be a Youtuber.

Guess you won't be the next Marzia then. :frown: Good luck though.
