I got my AS results today and I got As in History and Politics a B in English and a D in French (which I am dropping next year!)
I really want to do a history degree and am aiming towards the universities with AAB offers (Royal Holloway, Necastle and Birmingham particularly.)
Will the D in my AS level French hurt my chances of getting into these universities or university in general?

Nah, I wouldn't have thought so, I got offers despite having a C at AS.

I got a D in AS French and I'm going to York, yes, it probably did affect my application but I still got good offers, don't worry!

Don't worry, I got a C at AS History! (180/300 if you must know)
Still got offers from Warwick, York, Exeter and Royal Holloway
though i had to work bloody hard to get it up to an A (which i did yay!)
_that_ was the only real disadvantage of getting a poor AS

no it shouldn't do. When I applied in 2005 to do history, I got CCCD at AS Level (the D was in french, which i dropped and retook a module..2 marks off a C, grr!) and RHUL gave me a BBB offer. Then again grade requirements have changed slightly. Just make sure u have a fab personal statement and your passion about history shows in it good luck!

(i think RHUL don't care too much about the AS that you're dropping)

i can assure you that as grades don't count towards much - your PREDICTED grades do - so if a teacher thinks you've underperformed you're ok. You can always retake AS modules - the predicted grades and A2 grades are the ones which count when uni is concerned
