So I have a chance of studying for an Environmental Science degree in Australia. I would be specialising in environmental chemistry and environmental analysis. The thing is that I'm actually interested in chemistry especially biochemistry and pharmacology. Ideally I would like to study Chemistry or Biochemistry so that I could work in the pharmaceutical or cosmetic industry but because of my financial situation I need a sponsor to finance my education and the sponsor would only finance degrees related to certain fields (environment, economics, politics).

I want to know whether I could possibly study Biochemistry or Chemistry at graduate level with this environmental science degree? I know the chances are very very slim but is it a possibility?

What exactly do you want do in the industry?

I imagine you can land yourself into analytical roles, but if you're after R&D synthesis sort of stuff then I think you're closing a lot of doors here. Master's level degrees with focuses on chemistry and biochemistry will probably assume the knowledge of a bachelor's in either or very similar, so i'm not convinced you'd be in a good position for that but i'm not sure by any means. I'm not entirely sure but typically there's a large component in the course for a research project, so supervisors will be expecting and requiring a reasonable level of proficiency in the lab. I fail to see how you'll achieve a similar standard to someone who has been doing pure chemistry or biochemistry for three years.

A brief look at the module titles and i'm guessing there's minimal organic chemistry, and obviously more with environmental focus rather than learning how to derive synthetic routes and how things react. I think there are probably some good relevant parts, just far too many large gaps.
