I really hope so but I don't think he can there's just too much wrong with the country right nevertheless I do think there will be improvements under him just not to the scale where it can surpass USA(United **** *******s)

why would he want it to look like usa. lots of buildings, cars, traffic, miserable people walking around bored and too wrapped up in their own lives. one of the reasons I love going to india its cuz its so different. the atmosphere and vibe is alot more relaxed and freee. so much culture there. dont know how to explain but it is am amazing countryyy

Can Modi (present PM of India) make India look like USA? Or can he make it much better before 2025?

I think it's hopeless to make India look like USA during his life. If he is determined to take actions and learn from China, just like what he did in Gujarat, he may make it better when his term expires.
Lol it's like they do a PR stunt then start patronising the West as though they've achieved great things. Maybe India will be the greatest country in the world in the future, but not in our lifetimes. My money is on Brazil once their social problems are fixed, that has the most potential.

The country needs build a proper sewage system and sort out its rampant slum population first.

Brazil or Mexico will be the next major developed country, since they only have to sort out their cartel issues, for the most part (and their shanty towns/favelas are miles ahead of India's in terms of infrastructure)

They already have Bollywood so ye why the **** not ;p
1. India will probably not be a developed country on par with European countries or the US (in their current state) within 50 years or even longer.

2. Before 2025?! Are you kidding?

Don't know about the thread title OP... But he'll certainly leave office with a better India than when he entered office.

I'd rather India were not "like the United States".

The United States has one of the widest gaps between rich and poor in the developed world, it spends far too much on its military which it could be spending on its poor, the assault on the trade unions has been disgraceful and it is an imperialist power.

Unfortunately, India looks too much like the United States at the moment. Massive inequality? Check. Overspending on unnecessary things like the space program? Check. A massive movie industry which just adds to the concentration of wealth? Check. India is just a massively overpopulated version of the United States which means that it has a lot more poverty than the United States.

I'd prefer to see India take its own course, than to become like the United States.
I think we need more time to predict what will be the future of India.

It will certainly take time but the one thing holding them back is their method of thinking. I don't want to sound rude but many people there, especially in poorer areas (Richer places too) are very backwards. I went there on holiday once and everywhere we went the guys there could not stop ogling at the girls we were with. They made no effort to be discrete. Let's also not forget the caste system they have there.

Other things to consider

1) Attitudes towards women (Majority want boys/ Rape/ Belief that women is supposed to stay at home)
2) Corruption
3) Huge Population (Poverty, lots of it)
4) Importance of religion to all members there (Less likely to question beliefs)
5) Will take a lot of time to improve all of the above

Those are my views anyway, It would be great if they indeed manage to become one of the better places on Earth though.

All of those things were true in Europe 100 years ago, look how much we've improved. And we didn't have the advantage of more developed countries to help them through it like we can now with developing countries. Some countries in Europe (Ireland, Finland for instance) were some of the most backward, isolated Medieval countries in the world until 200 years ago. There were still some people in Scotland who were using stone tools until the early 1700s. Development is not as slow a process as you might think.

No doubt that PM Modi is a good & honest man & totally dedicated for development. He wants to become India develop country but now he is facing big population & corruption problem. In becoming India best place in the world will take time.
Hmmm...it has a few positives, like hot women, ancient culture, the best national cuisine in the world, but then it can only seriously the best country in the world if it stops its discrimination, brings hundreds of millions out of poverty (and not literally **** on railway lines because they lack toilets/running water), grant equal rights to all per liberal democracy and truly eradicate caste discrimination...

Sorry but...the first mistake is trying to Americanise. That's the biggest issue of any Eastern and African country. Secondly, India's issues have been around for sooo many years, it's gonna take vigilant political and socieconomic veering to make it better and certainly not great. Sorry :s-smilie:

So Hollywood is the cause of the US' problems? I'd say the USA is nothing like India, it doesn't allow discrimination against lesser classes, or at least publicly questions it. The Zimmerman case was bad, but then at least it made politicians think. Modi and his predecessor Singh have said nothing about protecting lower caste girls from getting raped and abused.

So what are American private prisons filled with? Don't make me laugh. The level of inequality in the states is ridiculous. Their saving grace is that if you're exceptional, you can make it out of anywhere.

The PM doesn't need to remark on every rape case that happens, he'd be doing it all day if so. I'd rather see him bring in some tough legislation and removing the party in power from Uttar Pradesh, that's a lot more useful than lending yourself to the media to inevitably have your words twisted.

However, Congressmen and Senators from various states in the USA still do not, for example, question the massive class and racial bias present in the criminal justice system, particularly with regard to capital punishment.
