Coping with Tiredness

Normally when I'm tired for whatever reason I'll be fine...just sleep later. I mean, sometimes I'll be on the close at work, and sometimes I'll be up at 4:30am to be on the open...no problem.

But I booked Saturday off because I'm going down to oxford (3 hour drive) for a PreMed course. It means leaving at 5:30am (my mate is driving me).

Anyway, my boss gave us the day off, but has scheduled us both on the close the night before (tonight) meaning, I'll have had 3 hours sleep.

I don't want this to affect the course...because its cost me £90 (and mummy and daddy don't pay for my courses like my other friends applying for medicine) and I don't want being tired to ruin it.

Any advice? I'm not a big coffee drinker either. Pro-plus? Lots of coke?

(Bes thing is we'll prob get back late and I'm on the open on Sunday...

Fresh air, red bull and sheer determination to stay awake. That works for me

Why don't you see if you can get someone else to do the close? Have you asked your boss this?

Yeah I tried but me and the guy taking me both getting it off is unlikely and its someones birthday that works there so half the people have booked the night off.

Plus its tonight

AH. I see. Well, just make sure you get to bed as quickly as possible and don't drink too much caffeine. You'll need to concentrate on your course, and you don't want to be all jittery!

Well, you can nap a bit in the car.

Constant supply of red bull!! Soon as you feel the tiredness start to kick in, have another! At least that's how I managed to survive the most boring day of lessons possible after having 3 hours sleep the ngiht before.

It catches up on you eventually though...

Hrmmm. Red Bull gives you wings, but only on a very temporary basis. You'd have to drink a lot of cans to make it through a day, and at increasingly short intervals. It coud also give you a monster caffeine headache.

i'm sure you won't feel that tired when you get there., you'll be bored during your journey there so it's understandable to be tired and fed up, but once you arrive you'll be too busy trying to find the building your in, the room, who you have to report too etc etc, you won't have time to be tired. when you get there splash some cold water on your face and freshen up...that should work hopefully

University is like this.

Or at least, mine is. I survived going to bed at 2 and getting up at 6 a few days a week to row, then spending the day in the library.

Personally, I prefer tea over red bull. It doesn;t have as much of a kick, true, but it is enough to keep you going and won't leave you jittery.

I find a quick nap helps, just to kick start you, then boxes of pro-plus etc

A story my friend said (he was a bit dodgy) they kept a kid awake for 72 hours on pro-plus is this possible?

Could you catch up on some sleep in the car if your friend is driving?

I've managed 72 hours twice before. First time was riting my A2 Computing coursework, second time was at uni when I did sound at two May Balls, one after the other, with all the transporting of gear, setting up, lugging stuff around, etc that that involved. Though I wason teh Red Bull by the end of that one.

proplus and redbull to the extreme. also take ibuprofen or similar just incase you get that pounding headache from the caffiene. it's the only way! also as others have said, i suggest napping in the car

really really know what you mean here, my boss does similar things and it drives me insane. another favourite of hers is to give me days off on the rota, so i go and plan things to do then she changes it so that i AM working and have to cancel my plans, and have her get annoyed with me. i just feel like reminding her that i have a life OUTSIDE work...

also on wednesday i'm going to reading and i told her that i couldn't work monday and tuesday because i need to get things and pack, which for someone like me IS a mammoth task as i always take everything :p: in addition to this i need to help my disabled mother with things but nope, she's put me on monday AND tuesday AND tomorrow AND i was supposed to work today but i'm actually ill so i'm not :p:
