Help With Advanced Higher Dissertation

Hello everyone!,

I'm really struggling with finding some good books for my advanced higher english dissertation, most of the books I have read do not have the 'literary merit' to be used in a dissertation (as my teacher puts it) and I am unfamiliar with many of the books on the approved reading list from the SQA. I was hoping to do it on the theme of 'the will to live', does anyone have any suggestions of good books to use?
