Year 12 Chemistry Work Experience?

I'm eagerly hoping to do a chemistry degree, of course I'm aware of the required grades but my knowledge on work experience is clouded.

Do unis really want work experience for chemistry? And if so, where do I go? What kind of work experience would they expect me to have completed?

I've been made aware that work experience for chemistry is not necessarily vital unless applying to the most impressive universities, but how true this is, I am unsure.
