All of them permit overnight guests except the PPHs I believe.

Reply 2

Yes, but they have v.strict regulations like they can only stay overnight 4 nights in a term. I'm looking for the one that says the most days!

Eh? First I've heard of it...I know Cambridge at least sometimes thinks it's a boarding school full of overgrown kids and tries to treat us accordingly, but i've never heard of anything quite that ridiculous. At my college (New Hall), we can have overnight guests whenever we like, and none of that nonsense about signing guests in/out either.

Really? Because I was wondering if it was all just said for show. Every college I've looked at has strict things about guests outlined in their regulations book and it seemed I would have to compromise my choice of college so I could see my boyfriend regularly!

I.e. Christ College - You are permitted to have a guest stay in your room for a maximum of three consecutive nights.
The maximum number of nights you may normally have a guest staying in your room in any one Term is 9. You must notify the College of any guest staying in your room by submitting a Guest Form (available at the Porters’ Lodge) to the Lodge in advance.

Unless you're planning a sizeable, noisy orgy you're never going to have problems on this front.

We had a girl who literally had her boyfriend move in. Not as if it was subtle either, he set off the fire alarm at least twice. No one cared. Why would they?

Interesting - which college are you at?

So people are of the opinion that I shouldn't compromise my college choice re: how many overnight stays you are allowed?

Han

Reply 7

Yeah, it won't really make a difference at all unless you pick a PPH.

Reply 8

A PPH would be funny. shocked monks and all that.

As far as I'm aware, signing overnight guests in is simply to ensure that everyone is evacuated in case of a fire. Health and safety red tape really - how many Oxford colleges have burned down recently? Unless you go somewhere with overzealous porters like Christ Church, it shouldn't be too much of a problem to smuggle in your partner/dealer/drinking buddy from 6th form.

Not a problem at Christ Church either, I've wandered in at various hours before, sometimes alone and I'm not even from the college :p: !

Some of them are better know for gay orgies.

lol. It makes me laugh thinking about people asking tutors for 'overnight guests'. Its basically asking a tutor if you are allowed a shag. Sounds creepy.

Rather than researching which college goes out of its way to ease fornication, perhaps your time might be better spent, say, reading a book or periodical?
