changes to postgrad degrees

I'm currently doing a part-time postgrad MSc course in Oncology. We've been notified midway through the course that they wish to change the structure of the modules. Approximately 20% of the class started 6months later and would cover those first 6 months of modules with next year's cohort. For that 20% of students we would now have to take insert 2 gaps in the course of 2 months and 4 months to be able to cover all the modules and re-insert ourselves into the 2nd year of the course.

We do other exams outside of this course that require completion of year 1 to be allowed to sit them. The exam sittings are only twice a year so this delay pushes back our ability to sit the exams by a year.

It is fairly common for students to struggle to finish the exams during our 5 years of oncology training. Starting 6 monte late would put tremendous pressure on us.

Can they legally make this kind of change so late in the day? We are pleading them to make alternative arrangements for the group affected, how can we fight this to prevent it happening?
Yes, they can change the course half way through, but usually its made possibly for existing students to incorporate the changes more easily than what you are describing. Your Students Union should be able to help put pressure on the Course Convenors to sort this out - this is usually more effective than just individual students protesting. Get in touch with the appropriate SU staff and/or postgrad reps asap.
