Decay constant

Why and how will plotting Ln N against time and then finding the gradient give me the decay constant here?
Please help me, coz i never knew about it. Is it like i ve to learn it or it can be deducted from the normal equations in the text book?

You should know this formula and the log versions of it

N=NoeλtN=N_o e^{-\lambda t}

lnN=λt+LnNoln N = -\lambda t + Ln N_o

Compare the log formula with y = mx +c

Gradient is

The question you posted doesn't ask for this.
