Cramps while sex!

Hey guys and girls.

My gf recently started to get cramps while being in full action! Sometimes it's the calf, sometimes the tighs, sometimes the whole hip!
She starts shouting when the cramp sets in and I begin to stretch her leg to relax it.
You can imagine it's quite a funny scene. But wtf? Why does it happen?
Should she stretch before having sex like a sportsman?

She's quite accommodated to sex so it's not stress or fear which induces the cramps..

she just might have to start stretching? I also heard that muscle cramps are caused by lack of calcium...so maybe drink some milk beforehand? lol ::shrug::

g'luck anyway!
lol yea my gf has the same problem. it only happens now and again but it does get annoying
shes out of shape, tell her to try doing some excersize once in a while and it wont happen. Also being well hydrated helps stop muscle cramps. Some people, well most people think that streching before excersize stops cramps, but it does not, streching after excersize does however stop post excersize cramps, and sex is kinda like excersize.

next time I see a woman stretching in public I know what's going on, hehe.

Im just taking a guess here.

When you have sex, alot of muscles are contracting, and for a muscle to contract a nerve impulse is depolarised down the specific nerves. Once the action potential reaches the neuromuscular joint, the action potential travels along the plasma membrane of the muscles until it reaches the t tubules. This causes the sarcoplasmic reticulum which releases the calcium ions into the myofibrils the calcium attaches to the troponin on the thin actin filament this causes the tropomyosin to move into the groove of the helix actin protein. This allowing the myosin filaments to attach to the actin filaments via the cross bridge pushing it along and causing a muscle contraction.

So i guess an increase in calcium might reduce the muscle fatigue ie cramp.

Being fitter is another way of reducing muscle fatigue mainly because its a cause of lactic acid which is a product of anaerobic respiration. The more exercise you do the more alveoli you have the better your circulation becomes and so you taken in more oxygen efficiently and thus sustain aerobic respiration for longer so you follow through the the four processes of respiration instead of stopping at glycolysis at anaerobic respiration and causing lactic acid to form inside the muscles causing the pH of the proteins in the muscle to change and therefore change shape causing uncomfortableness.

Beautiful summary of AQA B A2 Muscle Biology there
Well, cramps are normally due to a build up of lactic acid, which is caused by muscles working very hard, and using up oxygen faster than we can inhale it (why we breathe more deeply when exercising.)
If this had happened from the first time you'd had sex, then it would just be that she was unfit, and needed more practice. If its suddenly started though, its a little odd. Either the sex has got more strenuous (in which case, you'll just have to take things more slowly!) or she's become less fit (so needs to do more exercise!)
If she's on the pill, there's a tiny chance that leg cramps could be caused by increased blood pressure (which can lead to more serious problems, but are only a very, very rare side effect of pill use.) If its only during sex that she gets cramp, its doesn't look like this is the case! If she's worried, get her to go to a doctor, anyway. Otherwise, lots of sex to get her muscles accustomed to doing all that work should do the trick!

Why thank you  i only learnt it this morning. Again i was just making things out the stuff ive learnt so far. I didnt include things like the transmitter across the synaptic cleft. Plus i wanted to see how much i actually knew and it incidently coincided with this.
Don't eat before sex
I get that. My boyfriend plays pro rugby and as a result is very wide and muscular! Nice visually, but when I'm on top I get terrible cramps sometimes! I'm yet to find a solution!

aha! so i was right, it does have something to do with milk! :-)
Yup .

Basically, if you're in a position where the blood supply to a part of your body (in this case her leg) is partially occluded, cramp is likely to develop if the muscle is being used a lot, same as in any sport!

yeah, we're having a good laugh over it too. Nothing better than laughing while sexoring. Though it might get a bit annoying after the 5th cramp in a row :p:

So thanks guys. I'll tell her she's out of shape.

Er, quite possibly not the best idea...:p:
tell her to try doing some excersize once in a while

tell her this and she may not have sex with you at all which i guess would solve the problem.

Ok, same as in anything requiring physical exertion.
