What is the point of General Studies?

I heard that a lot of universities, in particular the prestigious ones, don't accept general studies as an A-level. I'm just wandering why schools continue to teach it?

On average, not many students would end up going to prestigious unis, so General Studies is an option for them to get some easy points and in general, to ease them to a particular entry requirement for an average university.

That's my take on it though.

But surely if you arent good enough to study a subject then you arent good enough, why should things be made easier?

Because the school gets money for the ammount of passes they get, deal with it.

My Uni's accepting it, all though I only got a B on it...

I think there are quite a few which accept it, depending on what course you're applying for.
