You should have applied by now... really.

You need to fill out the form online and SAAS send a letter confirming that they will pay for your tuition fees, which you need to take when you register and matriculate.

yeah, you should have done it by now, i think the deadline is passed/within the next day.

tut tut tut!

but do it asap, seriously.

late applicants dont get their monay until a little later in the year, which may cause major problems.

seriously? ....i never knew that....i was told it would take 21 days to process my application then i would get money for the start of term.

If what you've said is true, then it doesnt look like I'll be going to Uni this year :frown:

Glasgow registration isn't for atleast a month though so you should be okay.

However if you're applying to Edinburgh registration is in just over three weeks yo.

Do it ASAP, like, right now. You're just in time - in the past they've taken about a month to process my application despite what they say about 21 days.

If they've not sent you a letter confirming your fees will be paid by the time you register at uni, it's not the end of the world and you can still go to uni. You can provisionally register at your normal registration time if you show them documentation that you've applied to SAAS and then get it sorted out when you receive your confirmation letter.

you pick these three

Tuition fees

Income-assessed loan for living-costs up to the maximum

Young Students' Bursary

if you want the maximum amount of money possible.

if you only want your tuition fees paid and dont want a loan just tick that box.

ANd if you only want a loan up to a certain amount below the maximum pick tuition fees and Non income assessed loan for living-costs only.

And I recommend you do it very very quickly, your really meant to do it in May or June.

Go here and click on "New students" for the timetable.

You must tick tuition fees. Tick income-assessed loan if you want the maximum loan you can get, OR tick non income-assessed loan if you want a smaller loan without the hassle of providing details of your family income, OR don't tick either if you don't want a loan. Tick Young Students' Bursary if you are from a low income family (family income under £28,000 per year I think). Go here to see if you are eligible for any supplementary grants. Don't tick healthcare funding unless you are doing a degree to do with healthcare e.g. dietetics, midwifery, etc.

but i thought the deadline on the saas website says u can apply for up to June 2007 for help in academic year 2006-2007???

Clearing up a few things:

You can apply up until next June for money for this year as the website says.
The deadline is really that they can't guarantee to get you your money in time for the start of your term.
Reply 11
so that means u definately need the saas award letter at registration?
Reply 12
it would make life much easier i presume!

Another quick question, im opening up a student bank account (proablly RBS), how long will it take to get the acct details that are needed for saas. Do they normally give you these details in a few days?

thanks!

they usually give your account number and sort code as soon as you open your bank account which is what you need to send to SAAS.

And no you dont need to take your SAAS letter to registration, I know this because I took the wrong one last year and I just took it to the relevant place at my uni the next week. But its better for your uni to have that letter as soon as possible.

What do you do if you are from a foreign country and can't open a bank account before you have residency in the UK? It is a vicious circle: no residence no bank account, no bank account no SAAS.
Folk do only get there on movin in day and then go and open a bank account... what to do?

You're told to take the letter to matriculation.
Last year, I had switched courses and unis, so I took my old SAAS letter and was told to take it to them when the new one arrived.

What happens if you are not guaranteed the money at the beginning of term? I am not talking about the student loan, only tuition fees.
Reply 17
do u still get matriulated even if u dont have the saas award letter yet?

If you apply only for tuition fees you don't need to fill in your bank account details. Just leave it blank.
If you need a student loan, I can't help you.
