There is hall banter, there is banter amongst friends and those who know each other, and then there is chanting stuff at someone who, in their first week away from home and my be struggling, taking the piss that they're on their own. I'm not against banter, but common sense sometimes please.

I don't think you're understanding the context this is put in to.
People don't start chanting 'On you're own' at you if you've just nipped off for a quick slash and happen to have lost your mates on the way....
They will most often be chanting on your own at you if you whip up some banter and no one else joins in.
So in my fresher's week I decided it might be fun to find a big bunch of Faragay people and start singing Faragay **** **** **** at them on my own, and then before they could start chanting 'On you're own', I burst in to a solitary rendition of 'On MY own, on MY own, on MY own. They didn't have any comebacks to that one.

All that you need to do is come to lufbra with an open mind and without worrying that you might get caught in the union on one of your fresher nights by some slightly more banterful people than yourself.
Take it how it is meant to be taken, with a pinch of salt.

Everyone is there to give it, and everyone is also there to take it.

yeh i did lol, fire alarm and football was same night actually! lol...interesting. i was like wtf is happeneing then we got told we had to go lol. stupid ex tho told me to get ready to go out so i didnt have a jumper there was frozen, and his friend didnt tell his gf either so we were both stood there shaking like hell, and didnt knwo the chants or anythign so cudnt join in, but yeh, interesting lol

Sup guys and gals!

Havent posted in a while so thort start posting again to offer advice etc!

After spending 3 yrs in halls i can honestly say that the rivalry is much less extreme now than it was when i started. You can pretty much guarantee that its all died down by the end of the first 3 weeks when lectures start.

As posted earlier, message to garcia dos re-ignite hall passion for a mcouple of days but its just friendly banter.

If you think "youre on your own" is a bad chant then u need to prepare yourself for sum more lets say...hardcore chanting, just dont let it get to you. You'll prob end up sitting next to a few of these people in lectures come the 2nd week of term, sum will even become good mates who help you thru uni...so its a double edged sword!

Afraid though that RAG have had to change the format of Garcia this year so what current students know as message to garcia is not going to be what prospective students will be experiencing in Rag week. :frown:
