Bath or Leicester

Hi I am in a small dilemma and wanted some advice.I am doing Economics L100.Of my 6 choices on my original form my favourite places were Bristol and Leicester.Bristol wanted AAB and Leicester BBB.I obviously wanted Bristol because of its high reputation and liked the idea of going to a University of this stature. They rejected me and in the end I put Leicester firm choice with an offer of BBB.On Thursday however I did better than required I got ABB.So I thought I would try and ring around better Unviersities such as Bristol as this was a high preference for me.The only place i got a good response was Bath.Their normal offer for Eco is AAB.Which I obviously didnt get.Anyway after many phone calls I was given an offer by Bath for 2007 on my grades of ABB.However this means I would have to take a gap year.But I rang on Friday and asked if there were ANY places available for this year.To my suprise I was offered a place to start in September.I rushed down to Bath to have a look as I didnt go to the Open Days.

The pros of Bath are, in my opinion, that it has a higher reputation than Leicester, its 7th for Economics and has been a cosistent top 10 performer in the last few years whereas Leicester jumps in and out of the top 20.Bath offers a year long placement in the 3rd year to various companies such as the HM treasury and KPMG and if in London earn a wage of 15-20k, this is not available at Leicester although there will always be Summer work experience for this type of thing wherever you go.Students at Bath have higher grades so I would be in an environment with more competent students and possibly a better working attitude.Bath is also in a really nice area, scenery old town and affluent area.

The cons of Bath are the Uni is literally on a 2 mile steep hill away from the city centre.As I got higher grades than required at Leicester they are offering me £1000 bonus.Bath is a quiet city, I am not sure about how lively the city is and whether there are many clubs and such.The Bath SU does not seem to be as active as Leicester, I am into my music and Bath only ever gets in 2 semi pro bands a year but ive been told many people go to nearby Bristol for good gigs. Bath is a small Uni, about 7000 students, and doesnt house many courses you would expect at Uni particular the Arts subjects no Law, History, Geography,English etc and although not an Art no medicine.It is a very scienced based University.This means theres a smaller spectrum of students in diverse range of courses and so no opportunity to interact with people in very different courses such as medics or lawyers.

To make this clear the offer I have from Bath would be through clearing and the admissions tutor will hold my place but i must withdraw from Leicester, my current unconditional firm and enter clearing on Ucas which may take a while

I KNOW THIS POST IS EXTREMELY LONG AND MAY BE TEDIOUS TO READ BUT IF YOUVE GOT THIS FAR I WOULD APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD GIVE ME FEEDBACK PARTICULARLY IF YOU GO TO EITHER OF THESE UNIS AS I AM TEARING MYSELF APART OVER THIS
;please;
I NEED TO KNOW BY MONDAY CHEERS

I would say definatly Bath. Way better reputation and its for this year.
If I was you I would go to Leicester, go get yourself a really high first, then transfer to Bristol or wherever else direct to their 2nd year, that way you would not be wating time with gap years etc.

But the offer is now for 2006!

I would definitely say Bath-in my opinion its a much better respected university especially for economics.

Admittedly Bath isn't going to be as lively as leicester but bear in mind there are two unis there and where there are students places cater for students. The hill thing-I'm sure on the open day they told us there was a bus every 10 mins taking you from the campus down to the city/town(?) or the other way. Don't let someting silly like that chnage your mind!!:p: In terms of the bonus-no doubt Bath have similar things-look into it!:biggrin: :biggrin:

But anyway...Go To Bath!
Go to Bath - it's got a far better reputation! The city is a bit small, but Bristol is not that far away (20 mins on the train) and in the end, it is what you make of it

Well I decided to go to Bath and theres no going back I withdrew from Leicester and have entered Clearing and sent my number to Bath so I hope nothing goes wrong from now lol.Hopefully this can process quickly so I can get my accomodation sorted as fast as possible, Eastwood and Westwood I hope I know its doubtful at this stage but I hope.COuld people possibly list in order which places are good to go I pretty much know already that the list will begin with Marlboro/Solsbury then Eastwood and Westwood.But from there on where?I know that Norwood is crap because its above the SU which = noise so where would people suggest if i cant get Westwood or Eastwood
