Flashing Lights at Railway Crossing (Foxton)

Flashing lights means all vehicles and pedestrians must stop. The difference to a steady red at a conventional light is that emergency vehicles responding to an emergency and displaying blue flashing lights may pass a normal red light but not a flashing red (since a train isn't going to hear the siren and yield right of way). The same flashing lights are also used at lifting and swing bridges and a few other cases where crossing against the lights isn't just stupid but highly danerous.
