When joining an investment bank as an analyst how many years can one work for a bank before they start an MBA?

If its in M&A, it is usually in between analyst and associate positions, so about 3 years in.

What some people don't realize is that it's pretty hard to get to Associate. It's not just something that automatically happens.

Yes, but as a matter of course, you assume that associateship is the next stage.

Far easier to get associote then other positions.

I know a lot of firms will only sponsor you to do an MBA etc once you've reached a certain grade (associate or whatever it may be) but don't forget a lot of the good business schools may require more years experience before you're accepted onto the course.
