I'm going to be using it at uni for general things.. surfing, working, watching dvds.. i have websites too so I'll be using photoshop and video editing tools

Is it worth the money? Has anyone got any comments about it?

The only issue I have with it is that 80GB hard drive will soon fill up if you do a lot of video editing.

I've got this EXACT one lol! It's amazing - really really fast and you can store sooo many pictures/videos/music etc on it. You can't really go wrong with a Dell Laptop to be honest...that's what I think anyway!

Yep but it might be cheaper to opt for a bigger internal drive, the interface will be faster than USB2, if you're capturing a video you will really need firewire on an external hard drive.

Well.. usually I delete things I've done anyway. But I guess if I want to keep them I could just put them on this PC when I come home?

Yep if you're careful and you're not capturing 2 hours worth of footage at a time you should get away with it. I do have a few customers that filled up their 80gb hard drives every quickly though.

I just think when you're paying that kind of money for a laptop there should no compromise.

careful it doesnt blow up. No, seriously, there seem to be a lot of problems of Dell laptops atm and their batteries catching fire - not sure how much of this is hype tho...

You can run XP with a Macbook but its an extra expense. Basiscaly if you don't need OSX a Macbook is poor value for money.

However, if portability is an issue as it has a 17" screen, you might want to consider the Inspiron 6400.

Yo

I saw that laptop but then I realised the price for performance wasn't too good. My cousin has that laptop and it's pretty top but I'm looking for some better deals at the mo and the best I've found was

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Hewle...P3/version.asp

Review here: (Varied Processor/Ram/HD as it's an US model but more or less what to expect here)
http://www.notebookreview.com/defaul...view=HP+nc8430

I'm leaning towards this over the Dell because the Graphics card is twice as powerful as the X1400 generation and it has 3 year Collect/Return warranty.
Plus it's £40 cheaper too

External Hard drives are really cheap. You can get a 250GB External FW/USB HD for about £100. Or a 350GB USB without FW for the same ish price.

Dell laptops are for girls and noobs...

The screens are terrible on most Dell models, unlike Sony's X-black LCDs.
