say if someone continued to write for about 10 seconds or so, what happens and what are the possible penalties? The invigilator 'reports' you and marks are taken away from you or what?

Invigilator logs it along with your name, marker chooses what to do, i believe

I doubt very much that an invigilator would actually report you if you continued for 10 seconds or so after the end of the exam. Obviously if you refused to stop and noticeably continued after everyone else then they would probably note it down, but not for 10 seconds. 10 seconds extra is hardly going to affect your mark.

10 seconds won't make a difference. It's enough time to finish off a sentence.

You're allowed to finish your sentence, but if you were writing until the invigilator collected your paper, then you could very well be reported, if that happens, it's up to the exam board what they do. Worst case is that they give you 0 for all your exams from that exam board. (I'm an ex-invigilator)

I think for you, death by snu snu will be most appropriate.

yeah, i figured as much, but the invigilator we had was this really old grumpy woman who hated me with a passion

It was after nearly everyone had finished writing, but meh it was only for 10 seconds or so. I was actually just finishing my sentence when she said 'put your pen down'; I ignored her the first time but I put my pen down literally 2 seconds after she said it.

They have to tell you if they report you so nothing happened, don't worry!
