After having about an average of 10 in my GCSE classes, I'm lucking forward to a few more people this year, I'd say:
French - 16
Maths/Further - 11
Chemistry - 16
History - 20

God!! That seems very small GCSE classes compared to me! In nearly all my subjects there is at least 25 people, normally more, apart from Leisure and Tourism which doesn't really count becasue hardly anybody takes it and it's not really well publisied (sp?), lots of people didn't even know it exsisted! :p: I can't wait till Sixth Form where hopefully there will be only a few people in each class, one A Level class i knew only had 3 people in it!
Urm, I'd say average for english subjects was about 17, then, sciences tend to be about 10-12 (only my bio class was 8 by the end of the year), and humanities seems to be about 15. So go with about 15 on average.
At AS

chemistry-3
biology-5
physics-3
history-5

about 200-300 people in years 12 and 13
My classes are okay sizes this year.

Maths - 7
Biology - 11

Quite large compared to most in here but still good I think. I think it is important to have a balance between a small class size and also a fair number of new people to meet...

At A2 my class sizes were:
History - 5
English Lit - 13
English Language - 3

For AS Biology there were 14 of us, and about 7 in AS critical thinking.

I was at an independant girls' school though.
