Reading University - Most fun halls???

I made a last minute switch to go to Reading uni. I am looking at accommodation and it is really important to me that I make lots of new friends and can have a really fun time at uni. I know Reading has fun night-life and I want to make sure I make the most of that. Could anyone tell me which halls are the best for like crazy nights and loads of fun (Preferably with mixed boys and girls, not single sex). Also could anyone tell me about the clubs and bars?

Jessie.
Hey,

Just wanted to let you know about a new option for students at Reading, which may be an option for you. It's understandable if you're a first year that you want to share a "traditional" flat in halls, but studios are still really popular with 1st years too - its all just personal taste! Central Studios is opening this September right in the centre of Reading (next to Sainsbury on Friar Street). Every studio is en suite with small double bed, kitchen area, loads of work space and storage space. There's also a roof terrace and social space to meet up with friends and your new neighbours!

We are surrounded by shops, restaurants, cafes, clubs and bars so you are right in the heart of the social stuff!

All bills are included in the weekly rent, with free WiFi and contents insurance too. If you give our Accommodation Manager Daiga a call on 07795 197272 she can give you much more info and book you in for a viewing! Or take a look at our website for more details - www.freshstudentliving.co.uk/reading

Many thanks

Hey  I'm starting Reading in September and the social aspect of going to uni is really important to me too! I've applied for Mackinder as my first option, and then Child's and Stenton for my second and third choices. I don't know what your opinion is on catering/self catering, or ensuite/shared bathrooms, but personally I wanted ensuite and self catered, so the Park group halls were better for me. Also, I asked for mixed sex

When I've been to open days and stuff people have said that it's quite varied in terms of people wanting different things out of uni, but the Park group halls are meant to be quite sociable and go out regularly a few times a week. I've also heard that Benyon is really sociable and go clubbing often, but I don't know much about it there as I haven't applied

They've got a nightclub on camps called 3sixty and the union nights are Wednesdays and Saturdays I think, but I've been a bit nosey on Google and found loads of clubs in Reading, definitely more than where I'm from anyway haha  Also, London is 20 minutes away so I intend to go out there a couple of times if I can afford it

Obviously I don't know as much as current students haha, but hope I've helped slightly

Hi there! I'm a second year speech and language therapy student at Reading and stayed in Stenton Townhouses last year, which is part of park group. Every hall should have a JCR committee who in the first two weeks organise nights out to all the clubs in Reading and encourage people in different flat to socialise. There are also events run via the Student union such as the freshers ball. There are a variety of night clubs in Reading that have student nights on different nights of the week so there is always somewhere to go! I'd also advise joining a society https://www.rusu.co.uk/activities/ as this is a brilliant way of making friends via a shared interest.
Personally, everyone I have met in the last two years has been friendly and I think everyone is in the same boat when they arrive - ie not knowing anyone and wanting to make friends so it's really easy to socialise and meet new people!
I hope this helps:biggrin:

Hey there
As I like to say, there's no such thing as "the most fun", "the most sociable", "the most noisy" hall that we (people who had lived there for some period in the past) can tell you - it all always depends on the people you live with! It varies from year to year, from floor to floor and even from flat to flat - I'm sure that you'll make your friends with whom you'll go out, and it's not necessary for them to be from your flat. I've lived in the Park Group this year (in both Stenton and Mackinder) and even though I didn't go out much, I know that the previous JCR's were making a lot of events, especially in the Freshers' week (which maybe is important, because if you go to them, you'll meet some people who would like to go out as well), but I know that the other halls make some events as well. If when you apply, you tell them that you want mixed-sex flat/corridor, I think that they'll try to match your wish. Just every hall has its ups and downs, like everything.
As for the clubs, there are many in the town (and even 360 at the university's union), they make different themed nights with different types of music, I'm sure that you'll find the thing that you like! Google clubs in Reading, I think that their websites will give you better idea then me.
Good luck!

I will be going to Reading Uni this September and I have got into Mackinder Halls. From visiting my friend regularly who has just finished first year Park Group Halls seems a safe bet when it comes to having a sociable place to live!
I have been on several nights out down there and it is SO good - you won't be disappointed.
I went to windsor hall and it was awesome, they even have a cheap dining area/bar just outside the hall now and I think drinks are as cheap as £1.50! When I was there everyone went to Qbar alot, it was small but it meant everyone knew each other. They had this drink called aviation fuel that got you wrecked.
