Sprained ankle

ok, hi everyone, first post

A week ago i sprained my ankle and it swelled up really big, i was on crutches for a few days as i couldnt bear to walk...but now i can walk, but still with notable pain...its worse going down stairs and today i tried to drive my car and it REALLY hurt again

The only doctor who saw it was the guy in casualty, i had an xray and everything and its NOT broken...but a week later im still getting pain :frown:

My foot is also visually bruised...its green down to about and inch away from the toes, its blue/red down where the foot meets the sole of my foot and a normal bruised colour over the outer boney part of the ankle. Also there is some bruising on the inside of the ankle...

There is also to the left of the outer boney part of my ankle a very tender hard lump (i assume ligament) which is where most of the pain comes from. Also when im going up stairs, the foot is fine when i have my weight on it, but when i take my foot off the ground the ligament area really hurts for a few seconds. Also when going up and down stairs it feels weak (although its possibly to walk on) and the bones in my heel click a lot.

I know its only been a week but, should i get a doc to check it out? or will it just go away using RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) i really want to get back training again soon!!

You're not the first one to say that!!

But i do mean green as in bruised, not gangrene....tut
I have sprianed my ankle and it did not bruise, you have not sprained it, you have just bruised it very seriously. I bruised it badly once when i was stanidng over my bike with 1 foot clipped in to the SPD's and trying to change gears on the spot, i toppled over and my foot got forced in to a rock. I could not walk for a few days, what you have is worse but in principal its the same, just let it rest, aslong as its getting better its not a problem even if it is taking a long time.

it will take way longer than a week. Just keep off it as much as you can and take ibuprophren to help with swelling as well as keeping it strapped up and heated. My physio told me to put my foot in warm water and then bend my foot over so it was pulling things back into place (really hard to explain..err?) and keep it like this and put it into cold water. My ankle isn't as bad as yours I just do a lot of running so it's more general wear and tear but I can't see it doing you any harm.
