Hi, I'm thinking of doing civil engineering at uni. At the moment I do maths physics bio and English. However following some uni open days, I'm beginning to have doubts about my course choice. Does civil engineering have any exams, or is it just LOADS of coursework? Secondly, are they really pushy to make you do a year in industry?... If I was ready for the world of work, I wouldn't be going to uni!!

I think you need to do more research.

Civil Engineering, like all degrees, is made up of a series of modules which you need to take in order to complete the year. Each module will have an exam component, alongside a coursework component. Is generally exam-biased, notwithstanding group design projects you will encounter and is not exam based.

Nobody pushes you to do a year in industry. The decision is left to you. Some people find it a great way to get experience in the industry early on and possibly a job offer after graduation. Others prefer to finish their degree earlier. In my experience, a very small number choose to do the year in industry.
