Movie Madness is an event pitting 64 films against each other in a tournament where only one will triumph (to find out more, click here).
Who will progress to the next round? You decide.

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
The second in the epic space opera that is Star Wars. It is a lot darker and more involving than the first, as Luke Skywalker travels to Dagobah to be trained by Yoda while Darth Vader pursues his friends across the galaxy.

Blade Runner (1982-2007)
Ridley Scott's cyberpunk masterpiece, Blade Runner stars Harrison Ford as a specialist police 'Blade Runner' charged with hunting down and 'retiring' a group of replicants led by the charismatic Rutget Hauer. Visually stunning and set to a beautiful score by Vangelis the film's ultimate theme is to reflect on the nature of mortality and what it means to be human; its reputation and standing has only grown since it's initial release especially following Scott's definitive Final Cut was released to universal acclaim in 2007.

Not sure if many will have seen Blade Runner nowadays, but it's an incredibly relevant and good film. Voted for it, but was definitely a tough call.

Voted Blade Runner

I just have no interest in the Star Wars movies at all so I'd curse the day it wins over this. They're all so long and boring!

Have seen Blade Runner, Prefer Star Wars. This is THE classic Star Wars film with the infamous "Luke, i am your father" quote. It's just iconic in a way that Blade Runner isn't.

How is the Tears in the Rain speech not icornic? :O
It's far more interesting and poignant than anything in the SW films.

Ask 100 people on the street to finish the sentence "Luke i am your " and note the number of people, I'd put it at a solid 90/95+ will easily finish it.

Ask the same people what the Tears in the Rain speech even is or what film it is from and you'd be met with 95 confused looking faces.

...That's exactly my point.
Not as many know Blade Runner and so would vote for Star Wars as it's the only one they've seen.

Fair enough.

But i do think since so many more people have seen it that it makes the film more iconic. Free to disagree though.

My thoughts exactly. The Empire Strikes Back is great fun, but I had to vote for Blade Runner.

If it were any other SW film and I would have gone Blade Runner, but come on, ESB is just epic

Empire Strikes Back is the best of the SW series, hence its inclusion. TBH either film here will be a deserved contender in the group.

Voted for Star Wars ep V. Watched Blade Runner recently for the second time and I found it really interesting and thought provoking - but in terms of enjoyment, Star Wars really encapsulates my childhood so wins over most films for me

A really difficult choice.

Empire - the best of the Star Wars films, largely because Lucas didn't do so much of it.

Blade Runner - from the art direction to the script to the acting, this is better.

A really difficult choice. Have seen both but liked neither. In the end, Star Wars got my vote as it was just a bit of an easier watch for somebody with no real interest.

Agree

That moment is huuuuge. The rebellion is almost crushed: Han Solo a solid block, the princess captured, Luke loses his arm, and that cliffhanger.

Blade Runner had some very interesting concepts. It's one of the reasons I love Spielberg's underrated Artificial Intelligence.

Star Wars wins because this is the ultimate movie of the series and destroys LOTR on every level it's just more fun
