first medical shadowing placement nerves (not a med student...yet)

Hi Guys,

I have my first medical shadowing shift tommorow in the hospital where I work as a HCA (Chelsea and Westminster). I will be shadowing one of the junior doctors of specialist registrars in AAU for the day.

As this is the hospital I work in I feel quite comfortable but it will be a new experience and a new department for me. I'm very excited because acute and emergency medicine is my primary area of interest at the moment. Though I'm also quite nervous for the same reasons.

Do any of the med students, medics or other who have any wisdom or experience to impart on this green individual?

Nerves are to be expected obviously, but the main thing to bear in mind is what a fantastic opportunity that you have here! Go in, ask questions, learn loads, and enjoy it! Certainly in my experience doctors prefer keen and enthusiastic shadowers to those who just sit there being nervous and worried about being in the way.
