Such a geeky injury but...

Yeah, so basically I sit with my laptop on my, well, lap, oddly enough...

Anyway, problem with this is the fan is situated on the bottom and I've noticed that when I put my laptop down i'm left with a red blotching on my thigh where it's been. It doesn't go away - i can't remember it having gone lately, definitely stays for days...

Is it unhealthy? I know I should prob just not sit with my laptop on my legs but for now it's most practical - I just want to know if it's damaging my leg somehow or what's causing the redness to stay?

I get that sometimes where I keep my other leg ontop of the other. I get a red mark too but I don't suppose it's anything serious. Just a fact of pressure being placed for a long period of time.

It's not the same as when you get a red mark from crossing your legs though...
Put a cushion on your lap first or put the laptop and a desk you dunce. It's common sense ffs. Or wear clothes that cover your legs, hussie

Or if you're really geeky, reposition the fan!

using a cushion will stop the fan from working properly - you need something which will keep the laptop elevated on its tiny little rubber feet.

i use...a laptray! its flat and hard on top so stops overheating, but underneath there's a lovely cushion all soft on my legs.

i thank you...

Sounds like a rash. Probably caused by the constant flow of dust onto your legs. :p: Cease.

Put a (large hardback) book on your legs, then the laptop on the book.
EJ love. Don't block the fan with your thigh, it needs to circulate the air out, leaving it on your kneee will cause effects such as a big red area, blotchiness as all of the warm air is constantly hitting your thigh/lap.

Doubt you're pregnant because of it either, like some wise guy in this thread said. Best buy one of those home kits to make sure though.

A cushion blocks the vents more than my leg does. I can't put my laptop on a desk atm.

And I wear jeans and it still happens.

I wasn't asking for advice on how to hold my laptop, i know i could put a tray there or whatnot - i was just asking if it was harmful.
why dont you put the laptop on the floor then lie in front of it on your stomach?
Reply 11
Because a) that sounds horrendously uncomfortable and b) i don't have that much floor space.
sit cross legged on your bed and put your laptop in front of your knees.

I doubt it does much damage - I've noticed the same thing on myself in the past. If it starts to feel wrong, rather than just look wrong, then you might want to rearrange things.

If it does get to that stage, you can get nifty laptop cooling trays to rest it on - they might even separately keep your legs cool too!
Your leg mite have got like bruised by the heat/pressure, doubt its anything to worry about.
Ive noticed a rash on my upper thigh .
I always put a wooden board underneath me when i have it on my knee

You nerd.
Dont let your laptop heat up it gets damaged over time.

The other thing is although the OP is a girl, I should warn other guys that having a laptop on your lap can damage your fertility - our sperm factories are quite temperature sensative.

Could be worse, you could've sliced your penis off with the blades inside the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner.

If you had a penis, obviously.
