Hi, i did the online test and passed. went to the interview and it went great (at one point the interviewee even said he was rather impressed). He said he will contact me in the next 2-3 days if i was successful. 20 mins later i check my email and its the "you were unsuccessful" email. im rather shocked, not only about how well the interview actually went but also that he said i will find out in the next 2-3 days.... what shall i do? i was almost certain that i got it...

Call him up and ask politely what occurred and whether he'll reconsider you.

Definitely strange but I believe he just said those phrases as normal routine for him. Probably says the same to everyone so he doesn't come across as rude. Personally I'd have rather been told to truth than to have my hopes up. Then again there may have been limited spaces for the job vacancy and he chose a more experienced worker. At the end of the day you are competing with many people for 1 job slot. I remember being 17 and competing with 25 year olds with tons of experience for a retail job and now I work part-time for Waitrose whilst studying. Just keep trying!

When I got a job at McDonalds, after the successful interview and actually getting the job I also received a "unsuccessful" E-mail. In my experience, it was standard practice to just send the automated email out and finish whatever official procedure theyre meant to go through. I wouldnt worry too much, go on what he said and if he hasn't got back to you within a few days, then you can worry and make posts
