I am thinking about doing history at university and I am wondering about whether it is worth doing, i.e can it lead to a range of careers? I know it isn't a vocational degree, but I am sure it can open many doors, thoughts?

I'm going to do ancient history at uni. And while I'd like to be a historian, I'm also thinking about the idea of working for museums that specialise in ancient artefacts.

Depends on what you'd like to do. From the little I know, you can go into almost anything but it's trying to convince an employer that you're better suited to a job. Getting experience is a lot more important than what you study.

On paper it allows you into most jobs - anything that doesn't require a specific degree. However you still have to team this with a lot of work experience/interships, having a history degree won't make you instantly walk into a career (nor will most degrees on their own).

    Have a read maybe? http://www.prospects.ac.uk/options_history.htm
