Ok so i'm in the same boat as alot of you- put all 3 choices as s/c and got offered rankin hall , catered. basically im wonderin whether to try and get somewhere in greenkbank cos rankin does look like a prison block and i liked greenbank when i visited. However, as i wanted s/c im just wondering if either has a particularly good/bad reputation for food! also any other benefits of one against the other? xx

I heard greenbank was better too. I've not eaten there, but i ate at carnatic for a couple of weeks and it was alright. But its on rotation so you'd end up knowing what was coming like 'roast dinner thursday' or 'fish pie monday'...oh yes...yummy stuff.

oh yes the "thursday roast" though I cannot gaurantee "fish pie monday" (which you are probably glad to hear). There are differences between eating at Greenbank and Carnatic. I haven't done so myself but a friend has and told me all those little differences Pulp Fiction style.

Is there always a choice of what to eat each night? You mention fis pie monday ...is there an alternative to fish if you don't like it?

The census is that Roscoe and Gladstone has the best food. Oddly, it's apparently all the same catering company, but having eaten a few times at D&R I can say there is a difference.

As for Carnatic.. I have been told they select which days in advance to brave the dining hall, and which to get a take away :p:.

yeah except you are vegetarian and have the veggie menu; you can select one of 2 main meals when you reach the food. So if there is fish pie (which I don't think is true as I don't have any memories of a fish in a pie) there will be another option to pick...or you could just say to them "erm, dear me that fish pie looks lovely but I think i'll give it aaaaaa miss! this once" and walk off leaving the fish pie to swallow in its own juices

This really isn't the case. Most people I know from R&G are on the whole rather happy with the food. Most people I know from Carnatic vehemontly dislike theirs. And I know a few people who have eaten at both - one who lived at Carnatic but later moved to R&G, and they all agree there is a big difference.

Sorry, but I'm not defending R&G Greenbank because I went there, I'm just reiterating what most people say!
