Hello all! I want to do my masters in 2015/2016 at Dundee uni and I want to commute everyday from Edinburgh. After some math, I've noticed that it's cheaper to do this rather than move to Dundee (living with parents, therefore no rent, no food money, and I've saved money over the years to buy the train tickets).

Is anyone doing this or has done this before? I've been commuting between Edi and Glasgow for the past month for my internship and it would take me the same amount of time for Dundee and I find it doable (not pleasant, just doable).

    Thanks!

    Hi,
I wondered if you found a solution/ have decided to commute next academic year?
I am also looking at commuting from Edinburgh to Dundee and back daily and am also unsure as to whether it is realistic or not.
    Thanks

Hey I didn't commute but did some days when I went home between uni and work. I didn't mind doing this for a while but I found that after a long day at uni I was 9-5 monday to friday then sometimes work after that the train journey could be draining when you just want to get home quickly. I commuted for 2 weeks just for work during the holiday and honestly it just wasn't worth it. Yes you might save a bit of money..not that much when you total two trains everyday and it would also mean that if you wanted to socialise in Dundee which you might not doing a masters its not as easy when your not living there. I'd also maybe take into consideration how demanding your masters will be because the 1hr10-30min train journeys especially during the rush hours are also sometimes too busy to get work done or anything other than be a bit of a sardine in a busy train. If you do decide to go ahead and are under 26 you can get a railcard and if you book enough in advance there are tickets for £4.55 each way!
