Like in the movies, the couple 'bump' into eachother and immediately fall in love. Has this ever happened to you or anyone you know?
I personally think it's pretty stupid to fall in love with someone you know nothing about..

No more weird than marrying a complete stranger in an arranged marriage.

    I saw a crocodile,
    Look at a squirrel.
    She ate it.

    - poem by William Shakespeare's fan.

So no. Love at first sight is not true in my opinion.

What has that got to do with this thread?

you have misunderstood. you are thinking of forced marriage.

Arranged marriage, people will meet up, date, talk etc. they do this for around a year.

Yeah I think love at first is a lot of crap and it just lust in disguise. I don't think you can love someone without actually knowing them. You can certainly have strong feelings of lust for them at the get go, but not love. Love builds up over time.

My aunt and uncle met on a Monday, got engaged the Friday and are still happily married after 30 years, but I suspect they're very much the exception and not the rule.

I think so. I think people can have a very strong attraction to each other at first sight, and even an infatuation with one another which is sometimes mistakenly understood to be love. How can you love somebody when all you've seen / know about them is their physical appearance and nothing else? Love is not an immediate feeling and it takes time to develop such a strong feeling towards somebody..

For me there are two different types. There is love at first sight which is very common however I believe that live can also occur over time.

No. I reckon love grows whilst together. Then again this concept of love is only a tool used to distract people from studying, at our age.

    You're equating love with lust

I'm just thinking aloud here, but men will bang most things. Add a dash of personality and a sprinkle of time to that arrangement, and you've got yourself love. Works the same with women, but as a whole (and yes, this is a generalisation, I'm well aware of that guys so there's no need to bring me up on it later, y'all know it's true for most) a good amount of men are more easily led by their genitals than women are.

So I guess in a roundabout kinda way I'm agreeing with you.

'Love' at first sight can't be love based on much more than the other persons appearance. Anyone who claims to have been in love at first sight probably doesn't really understand what love is.

Yes. I like to compare it to the time I bought a pair of shoes without looking at the shoe size. I looked at them, saw they had stars, became almost severely excited (I love stars) and my excitement made me forget that there's such a thing as shoe size. The shoes were a size 8 - I'm a size 4. Love at first sight makes you do stupid things like this. :nothing:

I must say, this is a very good analogy for love at first sight
