I'd write in full and avoid contractions or abbreviations in your PS, if I were you.

    Good luck with your applications!

I would just United Kingdom as it seems more formal

Personally i'd abbreviate but since uni's are snobbish institutions to the extreme, write United Kingdom (it goes against common sense but hey, gotta jump through the hoops).

If you really need to squeeze something in and you're over the word/character limit then maybe..

I abbreviated a lot of stuff and still got all my offers. Mainly to do with financial institutions where writing their full name would've probably taken half my word limit.

Good grief I'm surprised by the amount of people telling you not to abbreviate. As if somebody reading your PS would actually care whether you wrote out the 'U.K.' in full or not. Honestly OP just write UK

I think for UK it would be fine. Its for less distinct abbrev's which you probably shouldnt.

I indeed wrote abbrevs in my statement too, writing the 'US Financial Crisis' & 'UK'. Otherwise. i would have been pushed over the line limit.

    Still got all my offers

    UK will be fine.

When people refer to not using contractions, they're thinking of words like don't and won't instead of do not and will not.
