hi,
I am currently in year 12 so have just finished my as level. I am hoping to study graphic deign at university and was wondering if anyone knew any good universities for this. I am currently looking at Salford and Falmouth although this is very far away from where I live. Also I cannot really afford to live in London so can't go to a uni there. I would also like to ask if anyone done an art foundation course before studying graphic deign and if they would recommend doing this?
Thanks

Hi there-

glad you are thinking of coming to Falmouth, in general we advise you do a Foundation year before starting a BA- you can do a Foundation at Falmouth which garantees you a place on the BA (subject to passing the course etc).

If you want to find out more about the course and the requirements contact our admissions team: [email protected]

You can also talk to one of our student mentors by joining the graphic design facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/graph...nfalmouth14.17

I hope some of this helps!

You're in a similar position to me at the moment, as I've just finished my AS Level too. I've looked at Falmouth too, and they definitely seem like a good option. Aside from them, Brighton University seems to have a good reputation for graphic design, and also Norwich University of the Arts seems quite good too (although watch out, because they have separate courses for Graphic Design and Graphic Communication, so double check the overviews to make sure you pick the right course for you).

I'll just list a couple of other places I've looked too: Arts University Bournemouth, Lincoln University, and The School of Art and Design - Cheltenham.

As for the foundation degree, it's definitely recommended by a lot of places, but I think some places may also consider you if your portfolio's strong enough and you get really, really good grades. You need to check with the places you'll apply to though. (I'm still debating myself whether to definitely do it or not.)

Hope this has helped you out somehow.

Hi there I am a second year Digital Design student at University for the Creative Arts:

Have a look at our design related courses there might be something you like

http://www.ucreative.ac.uk/undergraduate

We have five campuses around the country.

In regard to doing a foundation year if you are not completely sure what you want to do within the creative field then why not!

Hope this helps,

Bobby

Hello,

Our Graphic Design course is in the top 20 in the UK and sits within our brand new art, architecture and design building which opened last year. Being in Lincoln, the cost of living is low and you can travel to London in two hours! Full course details can be found here. If you want to find out more information, let us know and we can answer any questions

Hi there,

I know you had said that Salford is a bit far but it's definitely worth having a look at. The course has now moved to Media City UK, therefore graphic design students are studying right on the doorstep of the BBC and iTV. There are loads of collaboration and placement opportunities, live briefs and opportunities to attend exhibitions. Definitely do have a look..especially if you are interested in having a taste of graphics and illustration/communication.
You can always chat to a tutor if you ring our Clearing line on 0161 295 0080, we're open every day.

Edinburgh college of art!

Deciding where is best for you depends what kind of course you are looking to study. Some of the top courses are very academic (Leeds and Reading) and some are more practical than others (Edinburgh). So look into these!

To study a foundation year or not simply depends on whether you think you're ready to take an intense design course in university level. University down south seems to be looking for those that have done a foundation year but generally most university dont really ask for that.

Hope this helps! Try to go to as many open days as you can. Speak to current students about the course, it will help you decide!
