What's a physics degree actually like, what sort of stuff do you study, is it a massive jump from A-Level, like can anyone give me an in depth description, also what books do you need for the first year, and what would it be good to learn ahead before I start

Why dont you email this question to unis or check what modules are studied in first year
Perhaps even buy a book or two for undergrad physics and look at a few pastpapers

I may be out of line (since I have not got a clue about Physics), however do the module descriptions do help you?
Eg. BSc Physics @ Bath;
An example past paper from Sheffield: http://physics-database.group.shef.a...101B-12-13.pdf (Electromagnetism and Waves Module).
