    Members of the Cambridge five spy ring were apparently regarded as 'hopeless drunks' by the Soviet Union.

    Secret files have shown that Guy Burgess, the man who managed to get inside the BBC and the Foreign Office, was "constantly under the influence of alcohol" and kept revealing secrets while intoxicated.

    Guy Burgess was gay but didn't enjoy life in Russia. Interestingly, Russia was effectively the first nation to legalise homosexuality when, in 1917, the old Tsarist laws were abolished. Stalin, of course, was less accepting.
