I'm about to move into my second year house with 5 other people, one of whom also receives DSA and we both have claim allowances of £150 for internet. I've been trying to set up broadband for the house and since there is 6 of us I thought it would be a better idea to go for one with a larger download speed (50mb) but this would cost over £300 compared to 16mb deals which are a bit over £150. Does anyone know if both my and my friend can claim for the same account even if its spread over different monthly bills?

No that won't be accepted. The bill has to be in the claimant's name, for their sole use, and not for shared access. You can only claim internet allowance between September and end of your academic year.

You may find that internet funding cease altogether soon. We've been advised by SFE that they will no longer accept recommendations for this.

Are you saying that I won't be able to claim anything for internet because I'll be living in a shared house?

The funding body will probably require the bill to be in the claimant's name, if it is and identifies clearly the amount spent on broadband (ie. not calls) then you may be okay. As with anything with SFE the only way to find out is often to submit the claim and see what they say.
