i think again it's the old cliche of 'who you know'.

i got into Clifford Chance for a 2/3 day placement during my AS levels... but it just so happened that the senior partner i was shadowing was an alumni of my school, which is how i landed it.

Yes this is so true. I'm doing my work experience at a law firm which to whom my girlfriends grandad is the biggest client. No coincidence sadly.

During school three of my mates got cushy work experience at Channel 4 because the head of channel 4 went to my school. For mine, I had a day at Blackpool Airport's Air Traffic Control and a few days at TVR watching cars being made, oh what fun :frown:

Yes, and people need to accept that this is just as common in the real world. I received no response when applying for a post I had 6 months successful experience of, because the person in charge instead picked someone with no experience who was part of their old school network. It's a fact that many people get jobs through connections rather than the standard application route.

It's all about the contacts. I've got an internship at Deutsche, £550-600 a week for 10 weeks, for sleeping with one of the partner's daughters at uni

Deutsche Bank you mean....

i applied for one of those positions  *basterd*

When considering law firms, and which ones to apply for, would i be right in saying that the US firms, based in London, generally offer higher salaries? For example Weil (www.weil.com) offer £35,000 for the first year of training and £60000 on qualification! This is £10000 or so more than the nearest UK Firm!

Thats impressive, though i question your morals lol! What are you studying at uni? Can u get internships at banks like Deutsche, with a non-mathematical, non-financially related degree?

yes i'm in sixth-form, and whilst there is undoubtably old boys (girls) network I haven't checked that out yet (most of the teachers don't know I want to do law yet), the contact is through someone I know through school though, but apparantly CC has been inundated with requests for w/e but he's going to see what he can do! fingers crossed!!:smile::smile:

I've a TC at a US firm which pays £65k on qualification. I also interviewed at Covington & Burling which pays £85.5k on qualification.

MC firms, by comparison, only pay £48-50k Ner ner ner ner ner. To be honest though, a MC training is the best you can get and will set you up forever.

Oh and it's BS that you have to go to Oxbridge to get TCs at these places. Just get strong A-levels (2As and a B minimum) and a 2:1 from a good redbrick and you'll be fine. Oxbridge may have a slight advantage at some firms, but it will only be slight.
