I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for starting your own business?

Basically I am looking into starting my own business (Ecommerce) and I am basically analysing their feasibility. Now I need some advice on your biggest challenges and just some info on your experience so far

Right now it looks like with any of the projects that my money will be going in to the website and product so not much left over for marketing or setting up a physical store etc.

Always start small and with as little capital as possible.

Also look for ways to do it for free first.

What are you trying to sell through e-commerce?

Starting my own clothing accessory brand - starting off with belts first.

So that kind of makes things hard regarding giving them away free.

My main stumbling block at the moment seems to be the marketing side

Correction to thread title needs to be applied, it should read:

"Starting a Business - Ask me anything"

Are you doing a buying wholesale bulk and then selling it as is or are you trying to rebrand or relabel it first or are you doing your own custom builds?

Managing your finance carefully. I mean really carefully.

The biggest thing is telling people what your business is, I hate it when I'm meeting with other startups, and they won't tell me what their ideas are???????

But don't be tight with your money. I tried it and failed miserably. I spent about £100 in total which included the website and stock, I have three items left on eBay which once sold will mean I have recouped my losses. I tried to do everything for free (I even managed to get free (normally paid for) web hosting). But it was very hard marketing with no money.

Another tip is to tell people about it. I didn't want to tell anyone about my idea until I had some sales and was confident it would work. I didn't tell anyone in real life about it and did it all over the internet (the only thing my family knew about was a parcel that I had delivered). I even sneaked the parcels back out of the house to post. It made it difficult to do but I didn't want to tell everyone because I wasn't 100% confident the idea would work (I don't think you can be until you get some sales).
