Everyone keeps saying it is.. its the same pay too but does anyone know?

unoless someone has trained to be both a physio and an OT i don't think you'll get a decent answer. Both jobs look at different aspects, although they do over lap in some areas.

You want the truth? Yes, mostly but JackieS also had some good points there. I'm biased tho b/c IMO physio is where it's at

Occupational Therapy is a lot easier to get into as its not as popular as physio - Physiotherapy is very competitive and Occupational Therapy fairly unknown. When I tell people I am about to start at degree in OT they always ask 'what's that?'

There is also (apparently) a shortage of OTs, which may also be another reason for lower grade requirements to encourage people to take up the course.

However, it is still hard work, after receiving a reading list for the first year it demonstrates how much physiology/anatomy/psychology goes into the OT training - it does not look easy!

But, I was also once interested in physio but my biology was not up to scratch lol, after receiving a poor AS level grade in biology, I decided to think of another profession - I declared my E in biology on my UCAS form, and still managed to get offers for OT.

the degree may be easier to get onto but the job as a whole probably isn't. I work as apart time OT AND Physio tech, and both of them work equally hard with as many challenges as the other

hm surely physio involves more manual work whereas occupational is more about the thinking and less physical, am I right?

yes that is true in that there is less manual work for the OT, but they are very involved in the physical side of the patient and how it affects things like ADL's e.g. washing, dressing, cooking meals, socialising etc .......but that doesn't mean its an easier career.

then again, if you work in rehab you might do alot of physcial stuff

If your indecided then work experience is the way forward

funnily enough my friend was an OT (Senior II) then retrained with me as a Physio....she prefers physio to OT now but at the time enjoyed the OT work, I guess physio is more her than the OT was!! We used to joke with her that she just needed the speech and language degree to be the 'Ultimate AHP'!

There may be a shortage of OT's but it's still really hard to get junior jobs once you qualify, not as bad as physio but it's going that way...:frown:

what aobut ODP and Paramedic registration ...

a bit like the occasional triple or quadruple registered Nurse /midwife you meet ( actually i know a few triple registered : adult / child and Mental health or Learning disabilities or Adult / child / midwife or RN/RM/RHV - and all registrations active !)
