Colorado became the first US state to legalize recreational use of cannabis at the start of the year. Between January 1st and April 30th, property crime and violent crime dropped by over 10% compared to the same time frame the year previous (in Denver). Revenue is expected to go up by as much as $30m.
There are health risks linked to cannabis use, however the severity of those risks aren't known. Health professionals make claims, but they are largely unproven.
Crime rates appear to go down and revenue goes up.The negative effects of drinking greatly overshadow the negative effects of cannabis use.
