Which one do you think is better, i.e. counts as an extra curriculur: volunteering at a youth club or Guides/Brownies??

They will both count as an extra curricular. It's more about what you've got out of doing the volunteering, rather than actually doing it. So you need to think about the skills it'll give you - eg. teamwork, leadership, responsibility etc - and how that will develop you. Otherwise there's no point in doing it.

Both can be fun, but you need to be a person that is going to help the people on these groups.

No it isn't. The point of volunteering is to help people. Doing it primarily for your own benefit defeats the point.

Well yes, but I assumed that was prerequisite.

Fair enough, but I certainly couldn't be bothered committing to something like volunteering if I didn't actually want to do it.

There's a vast difference between wanting to do it and doing it for a benefit to yourself.
