I previously studied on a Foundation Degree over three years part time. I didn't complete it but gained a Foundation Certificate exit award. The exit award isn't recognised to get me on to the second year of a degree but is treated as a Cert HE by Student Finance and they are taking all three years into account leaving me with one year of available funding.

My problem is if I return to complete the Foundation Degree I won't have funding available for a top up year to BSc, yet if I had completed the Foundation degree full time I would still have two years of funding available. This seems to penalise part time students who do not benefit from the +1 year. Is there anything I can do about this?

    Hello

Could you confirm if you are now going into full time education? Part time study would not count towards your course in this case.

    Thanks

    Hi

I was hoping to go into full time education but was advised by Student Finance that I wouldn't get funding due to 3 years of previous part time study in which I gained a foundation certificate. I am now looking to complete the final year of the Foundation Degree part time and then do a full time top up year to BSc.

    Hi Jack,

previous study is taken into consideration where you are applying for the same level of qualification
as you achieved a certificate this is effectively a lower qualification than the foundation degree at part time level you have up to 16 years of support to complete a course.
In this case you would be best to call us again on 0300 100 0607 and check the previous study calculation with an assessor. ask an adviser to check this with a super user to confirm the calculation for you.

    Thanks
