    No, but if the recipient isn't in when delivery is attempted, they can ask for the item to be redelivered to the post office.

    There's also Collect Plus which is a parcel company that operates from small shops (eg newsagents) that have a Paypoint machine. The sender drops the item off at a participating shop and pays, and can ask for it to be delivered to a participating shop. And because they are just in newsagents, there's probably one nearby you just haven't noticed.
