When we're kids we get told they're bad words, so when kids grow up they get unnecessary hype.

    Don't censor words...you'll get a warning.

I'd edit out the word you have in the OP.

Because we're told form a young age that arbitrary words are 'naughty', but no reason is given. Frequently there's a sexual connotation, but you can't really explain that to a 5 year old, can you?

Personally I'm not offended by swearing, although I generally don't swear myself unless I'm drunk or in a particularly stressful position, such as on Sunday where I nearly fell down a cliff.

Blame political correctness. People get ever so touchy over every little thing nowadays.

Why do different cultures have different swear words?
Different cultures have different ways for the individual to express themselves

What makes a word become a swear word?
Perhaps some people use swear words to express a sense of aggression? And so a word becomes a swear word if it expresses aggression or it intensifies what is said...

How do you feel when you swear?
    A range of different emotions

    Why do people swear?
To express their feelings for the subject in conversation

    I might be wrong.
