I usually keep my laptop charger plugged in but today I noticed it was quite hot so I removed it. When I plug it in now the light on the charger doesn't come on. How can I fix this??

Does the light not come on even if the other end is not plugged into the laptop?

If that is the case, the charger is broken, and there is not much you can do about that. You'll have to get a new one, either in warranty or otherwise.

Have you checked that the thick wire is plugged fully into the transformer? There's no satisfying click, you just have to push it hard. The connection can be broken if it comes halfway out, even though it looks and feels like it's still connected.
