Not surprised, but slightly disappointed that 12 Angry Men couldn't pull the upset (I know it was the higher IMDb seed, but it was always up against it with a younger demographic).

American Beauty deserved better, but was always on a hiding to nothing.

Pleased that One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest still resonates with a younger audience.

American Beauty put up a great fight against what will probably be the group winner and overall semi-finalist at least!

Only five results that don't expose the problems with letting anyone vote there

Yep, I think the demographic is to blame.

What's particularly interesting about 2001 is how much better it is than the story that inspired it. And it's better than the novelization too

    Which five is that?

I prefer the novel but still love the film.

I thiiiink I got 13/16, the wrong ones being Singin' in the Rain, Casablanca and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
(Which were all against films I'd never watched )

Hopefully I'm right, I think my memory's pretty good

The five winners I voted for, of course

Cuckoo's Nest, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, plus T2 are the really great ones out of the five.

Saving Private Ryan and Return Of The King were just better than the alternative.

True, none were THAT close but these were the closest 3. Not much between Schlinders List and Django unchained as a % and a decent turnout for the vote on that one.

Big surprise for me was American History X not really competing. Thought that'd be a closer tie.

Yep, that's the one I got wrong ... as did many others.

The other one that tripped up quite a few was Django falling at the first fence.

Django deserves to go. Solid 4/10 of a film.
