Due to factors beyond my control I've managed to end up without accommodation as a second year student for this coming September.
The university cannot offer me a room until September when the allocations are completed.
Right now I appear to have these options.

Wait until September to see what the university can offer if anything.
Book a private hall now (pretty expensive option. I've been looking at mill point or crm)
Find something on spare room Gumtree etc and find a room in a house which should be cheaper.

The main risk of waiting until September is that I may not be offered uni accommodation and private halls that I like may be full.

Does anyone know if the above mentioned halls are always full for the academic year?

I know that last year there were still spare places in uni halls for returners (I ended up enquiring on behalf of a friend in freshers week, and they said there were places).

In terms of looking for a spare room, there are always spare rooms available. You could try Manchester Student Homes and TSR Find a Flatmate http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=576

You could also try renting a room from a local letting agent - I know Drakes offers individual lettings, though they don't state it on their website.
