    Hi all,

I just had a quick question about the visual standards for RAF pilots.

I went for my eyesight test today and got:

6/4.8, but got and SPH score of +1.00 in both eyes. I saw on the visual standards sheet that they say plano to +1.75, so I assume that is fine? I also for an accommodation score of 10cm, but the score for 21-25 seems to be 11-13cm. I wasn't sure if that was a bad thing or if I'd outperformed the score.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Those are extreme specifics and the only people who can say anything are the pros at OASC. All you'll get here is guesswork.

The tests for pilots tend to focus around your peripheral vision and ability to focus quickly at different distances. If you don't wear glasses, i'm sure you'll be fine.

You know that from your lengthy experience as an optician and in depth knowledge of the exact requirements of OASC, do you?

I know that from talking to the optician as she was testing me against the RAF standards. Obviously i'm not learned in optometry, but I quizzed her a bit and she said that most of the tests listed were to do with those things.

Now, she's not an optician at OASC, and she isn't the last optometrist you see before acceptance to service, but as a broad spectrum, sure I'll take her word for it
